Emergency tutoring is tutoring given to your child on a last minute basis. There are many instances where this may be necessary. Maybe your child has an upcoming test or exam that they are not ready for. Or maybe there is a crucial homework assignment or project due soon that your child is having trouble completing. A tutor of this type can come in on short notice and provide extensive short term assistance to help your child get through the urgent academic need. You may be wondering how much of a notice is required to get this kind of tutor. In some cases, they can help your child on the same day.

Of course, you can expect to pay more for an emergency tutor acquired on short notice than you can a traditional type of tutor. The hard part of this situation may be locating such a tutor in your local area. Many tutoring facilities and even private tutors don't believe in cramming for tests and may not offer last minute services. However, there are some that do, for the simple reason that it is more lucrative for them. Professionals that do offer tutoring on a last minute basis can make more income than comparable tutors that do not offer this service.

You may be able to find a tutor in your local Yellow Pages or newspaper classifieds who can help you. Simply browse the ads and make a list of the tutors in your area, then call each one and ask about their policies, rates and whether they do offer this type of tutoring. If you can't find anyone, get on the Internet. You can do a search engine query and see if any listings come up. Craigslist is a great resource where you can browse ads and place your own ads. When placing a Craigslist ad, make sure you are in the right location and category. Make sure you specify the subject in which your child needs help, the age/grade of your child, how soon you need the service and for how long.

Emergency tutoring certainly isn't the best thing when it comes to teaching solid academic skills but it is sometimes necessary in certain situations. It's preferable for your child to work with a private tutor or tutoring facility on a long term basis and learn solid skills and study habits that can carry them through their entire education. Part of learning these skills is learning time management that can prevent your child from struggling at the last minute to study for tests or complete assignments.
