Tutoring Agency

Selecting the right tutoring agency can be a daunting task for many parents. There are so many things to consider, with one being the financial implications of hiring a tutor. You want to make sure you get your money's worth by choosing the best agency possible for the price you're willing to pay. It's important to choose an agency that has expertise dealing with the particular tutoring area that your child needs. The big name agencies usually offer tutoring for grades K through 12 and sometimes even for college students.

When it comes to subjects, the big agencies provide tutoring for the main school subject in which children may need assistance including math, reading, language, science, history, social studies, test preparation and more. College preparation is a big area for agencies because many parents want their children to have every advantage when preparing to apply to college. College preparation involves tutoring for tests like the PSAT, SAT, ACT and Regents to name a few. Your child may also be taught more about the actual college application and admissions process.

There are agencies like Sylvan and Princeton Review that have locations all over the country. Then there are smaller, localized agencies. You may want to talk to representatives from both the big and the small agencies to see who best meets your needs. Before you contact anyone you should have a general idea about the areas in which your child needs help, your financial budget, how often you want your child to be tutored and whether or not you prefer an in-home tutor or tutoring facility. In addition, there are both one-on-one tutors and group tutors that work in a small classroom type setting. What is best for one child may not be best for another when it comes to tutoring. It all depends on the academic needs of your child and where they require the most help.

When choosing a tutoring agency you may want input from your child's teachers as well. Teachers and guidance counselors can be a great source of help when selecting a tutor to help your child succeed. Like you, they want what's best for your child and want to see your child make academic progress. Your child's school may even have recommendations for tutors in the area for you to consider.
